Conservation of delicate silk paintings
I have just completed a major project involving a series of four silk paintings that arrived in a perished condition. Liaison with a textile conservator resulted in the silk being consolidated and finally framed. The full story can be found HERE
Antique cupboard door restored as frame for cross stitch
My wife has been working on a cross stitch for over 2 years and nearing completion she was thinking of how to present it. She saw an old door in the workshop which had an aperture within which she felt she could place the cross stitch.
The door was however in appalling condition with a grey surface from being outside and some evidence of fire damage. Not to be dissuaded though work was put in hand to restore the door. It was polished, new hinges fitted along with a lock and escutcheon and finally the cross stitch fitted. The cross stitch was stretched, fitted into a double mount and recessed back behind art glass for clarity and UV protection.
