Yet another painting ruined by water damage and again so bowed on the back that you could spin it round. However there was no flattening this one out unless carefully removed by a paper conservator. The watercolour had been adhered to a board and it was the board that had suffered the water damage causing it to bow and ripple the painting.
My customer didn’t want to go to that expense but still wanted to hang the picture on her wall looking as best as it could.
A double mount was chosen to compliment the muted colours of the watercolour and to combat the bowed painting it was supported by 15mm frame of foam board. This was enough to prevent the glazing from touching the rippled surface of the painting. A muted silvery green deep rebate frame was chosen to hold the deep package and Ultra Vue 70% anti reflective glass to help protect the colours and reduce reflections.
